Marita Garrett – Wilkinsburg’s new mayor
“Open to all’ does not mean “open to all.” Marita Garrett told security at her inaugural reception to instruct me to leave (with implied threat of force). I said, “the invitation on Facebook says ‘open to all’.” Marita said, “Not you, we have given you too many chances already. Out!” What is this about? Who is “we”? Marita became the endorsed Democratic candidate for mayor in the primary and ran a campaign to defeat other endorsed Democrats. I refrained from posting about this because loyalty to the Democratic Party is not my strong suit. I worked for Bernie Sanders then voted Green in the 2016 election for president. But in the 2017 election for Wilkinsburg council, Marita was working for Republicans against Democrats. That’s not a surprise– the largest contributions to her campaign were from a Republican venture capitalist. The Partnership for Positive Progress campaign finance statement for the primary election reports total expense amounting to $10 per vote. Who paid for the huge posters and glossy literature? Most of the campaign contributions came from outside Wilkinsburg. Here is a snip from the report.
What is Bradford Capital (note: Capital, not Capitol)? I encourage voters to look up campaign finance statements. Candidates and political action committees (PACs) active in campaigns within the county that receive or spend more than $250 must file reports in the Allegheny County Elections Division. To see the reports online– go to “Allegheny County elections” – “Candidates” – “Campaign Finance Reports.” Look up PACs as well as candidates! Marita Garrett as candidate reports little; Partnership for Positive Progress is the report that has the info.
News– a friend who was not booted from the mayor’s reception tonight told me that she was told– Kate was asked to leave tonight because during the campaign she disrupted a campaign meeting of Marita’s. Lie, lie, lie. I was not asked to leave tonight; I was ordered to leave. I never attended a Marita Garrett meeting during election campaigning. I did attend a meet-and-greet hosted by candidate Joe Davis, candidate for council in my ward, having told him by email that I would accept his invitation to discuss the issues with him. That is what Joe asked for– discuss the issues. Marita Garrett was not at that Joe Davis meet-and-greet. Lies will not stand.Note: I am going to get a person to work with me on better design for this website. If tonight is indication of what’s to come, I expect there will be disinformation to correct in 2018.
